IN THESE DAYS THE 25TH TROMSØ INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL IS TAKING PLACE IN THE NORTH OF NORWAY. HOCUS FOCUS HAS CONTRIBUTED WITH POST PRODUCTION ON FIVE OF THE SHORT FILMS THAT ARE PART OF THE FESTIVAL PROGRAM.

These are all films inspired by or shot on location in Finnmark and are premiering at TIFF. A short brief and tease on what to expect:
BORDERLAND, directed by Aleksander Olai Korsnes and produced by Rein Film, is set back in 1985 and takes place along the border between Norway and the Soviet Union. What starts out as a story about a man and his wish to catch a big salmon, turns into an incredible story about the cold war. Colour grading by Mathias Theissen, VFX by Bengt Ove Sannes and Elin Holde Hegsvold. Sound design by Preben Grieg-Halvorsen.
ÁILE JA ÁHKKU (Áile and her Grandmother) This is the story about a young girl who has a special relationship to nature that only her grandmother understands. Álle is taught how to use plants as medicine. However, one day she discovers a secret that turns her little world upside down. Directed by Silja Somby, produced by Julev Film and Odd Levi Paulsen. Colour grading by Haavard Albertsen and Sound design Preben Grieg-Halvorsen.
EDITH & AJLOSJA is also produced by Odd Levi Paulsen for Julev Film and is a simple story about love that defies cultural differences. A man and a woman are kept apart by a river, and have to break the laws of nature to come closer to each other.
IDITSILBA (Burning Sun) is directed by Elle Márjá Eira, who takes us to a reindeer herder community. Májjen and all the other women in the community carry a very special hat that resembles that of a horn. Men representing the church argue that the hat resembles the horn of the devil itself. Therefore the hats must be extinguished. Produced by Ken Are Bongo for Davás Film and colour grading Mathias Theissen.
JADUDAH (Red) is the last film of the five and what we can say about this short film is quite enigmatic: “A wedding photo captures the love for a short moment, a strange moment that might last an eternity". Directed by Maida Hals, produced by Odd Levi Paulsen for Julev Film and co-produced by Verk og Rein Film. Colour grading Haavard Albertsen.

We are very happy to announce that THE STORE is shortlisted for an award in the category of film commercial – congratulations to everyone involved. Honour and glory to Kitchen Leo Burnett, Tangrystan and director Michael Pfleghar. A little stardust sprinkles on Hocus Focus as well, as Rolf Thomas Løvig has edited the very funny film about how car drivers bullies cyclists, Mathias Theissen has coloured it and the sound design is created by Preben Grieg-Halvorsen. THE 23TH AND 24TH OF MAY WAS PERFECT DAYS TO BE IN HORTEN FOR A VERT SKATER.

That’s right, vert (as in vertical) skateboarding is here to stay and for some early summer days, national as well as international performers and fans gathered for ramp skating at the Hang-Up vert contest in Horten Skate Park. With high-flying jumps and jams, the skaters excelled with incredible achievements in the more than 13-meter wide ramp.
The driving forces behind the arrangement are enthusiasts Martin Haavde and Gunnar Løge. Løge has built ramps for skaters in Norway for many, many years. He has put down endless hours to help skaters and the excistens of a skater environment. Haavde is a vert skater with many years of experience, and impressively enough he is still going strong with high class and great style after the age of 40. He will continue to create a vert happening that encourages vert skating and helps recruiting new skaters, as well as giving the more experienced riders a goal to push for.
Hocus Focus saw this arrangement as a great event and took the opportunity to make a contribution - with pleasure. There was no official prizemoney included in the contest, so part of the first prize was a top quality promotional film from us. Mats Hatlem - Norway's greatest skating talent at the age of 14 - won the whole competition. Together with his father Petter Hatlem, Hocus Focus put together Mats’ film worthy a champion, edited by Thomas Løvig and colour graded by Mathias Theissen.

With the joint efforts of every guy and doll in Hocus Focus, two additional films were also made for various purposes.
One main film “HANG UP”, directed by Kristoffer Klunk, shot by Martin J. Edelsten and Magnus Flåto, with additional photo by Ole-Arild Svendsen and Henrik Berge. Editing by Henrik Berge and colour grading by Haavard Albertsen. Much thanks to Lemaitre for great music and free use of the excellent “The friendly sound”.
Hang-Up Main Film

Ove Kenneth Nilsen has edited a short promotional film for the arrangement, and again, much thanks to Torgny Amdam who has given us free use of his music from his new album “Oil panic” – mixed by our own Preben Grieg-Halvorsen. Colour grading by Haavard Albertsen.

Conclusion: A great experience with an equally great result. We at Hocus Focus are thankful and inspired by all the energy from the crew and contestants of the event and by taking part in the production from A to Å.
